Previous Messages | * * * * ARTIST / Masahiro Onda Konnichiwa! My name is Masahiro. I am working on the background graphics for AC04. I also worked on Ace Combat 3. The advances in the graphical capabilities of the PS2 have made it harder to cover up any graphical shortcomings, which means I have to work a lot harder to keep you guys happy! Our aim in AC04 is to create topography with an astounding level of realism. We want the player to be able to feel like they are actually flying over real cities and terrain. We are now entering the final stages of development, so please wait just a little longer. |

![]() I should actually do some work! | * * * * ARTIST / Hiromi Matsuoka Hi! This is Hiromi. I am also working on the background graphics of AC04. This is the first Ace game that I have had the pleasure of working on. Prior to this I worked on the Ridge Racer series of games. The move to PS2 will of course enable us to create nicer graphics, but we also want to use the extra power to impart to the player the subtle differences in air pressure and altitude that a real pilot would experience. I hope that the final game will live up to your expectations. |
* * * * GAME DESIGNER / Masahide Kito I have been involved with this project from the very beginning, however it is only now that the features I am responsible for are being implemented. This includes things such as the aircraft radio transmissions, scripting etc. It is my responsibility to ensure that the text and speech matches the flow and feel of the game, and that the player must see or feel realistic consequences of their actions. During development I was sometimes unsure whether my work was going as well as I had aimed for, however, recently I was able to hear some of the voices implemented for the first time, and it exceeded all my expectations. It gave me goose bumps when I first heard "Fox 2! Fox 2!" coming from the radio. Unfortunately we were not able to implement the radio sounds into the Demo version, so it looks like you will have to buy the finished version to hear what I am talking about... |
![]() Here are my favorite books. One of them is titled "How to Write a Best Selling Novel" |
![]() I really like FRISK! | * * * * ARTIST / Hitoshi Muto Hi everyone, my name is Hitoshi. My job is to assist with the modeling of the aircraft in Ace 4. It is quite demanding work, because of the extremely high standard of graphics that the PS2 can create. There are actually real aircraft presented in the game, as well as some slightly modified versions of these planes. The aircraft have been carefully modeled, so that they are not outdone by the beautiful and realistic background graphics. We are now into the final stretch of development. As the different parts of the game start to come together, including new content and breathtaking graphics, I am becoming more excited and can't wait to see the final product. |
* * * * ARTIST Kosuke Itomi I am in charge of the visual direction of AC04, and I also helped to develop the screenplay. I was part of the previous Ace Combat 2 development team, so this is my second time working with the Ace Combat series. When I initially joined the project I was also working on the movie scenes for the game "Seven: Cavalry of Mormoth", while making the promotion movies for AC04 at the same time. In AC04, we have added real-time rendered movies that were created by our team, as well as some movies developed externally. We are still creating some more effective and cool movies that will best suit the atmosphere of each scene. Describing the actual contents in words is difficult, so I highly recommend that you check out the download movies available on this site. We are planning to add more movies to the site soon, so keep an eye out for them! |
![]() This Digital Video Camera was very handy during development. |
![]() Putting on the finishing touches by hand, with a ruler and protractor! | * * * * GAME DESIGNER Natsuki Isaki These days whenever I see a road sign indicating "300m ahead", it reminds me of the entire length of the aircraft carrier in AC04. I guess I am much too addicted to AC04! I have been working on the level design, including setting the AI and performance of each NPC and placing them on each stage. I put myself in the situation of each NPC in the game in order to create the best scenarios and setting of the moves, such as climbing to a high altitude to gain advantage against an enemy, or acting as a decoy to support my fellow wingman in accomplishing his mission. Each NPC has been positioned with much thought to create a realistic atmosphere of the airspace within AC04. I am sure that my work has added a bit of flavor to this game, and I hope it will deliver the excitement and the experience of being a real pilot. Finally, I would like to thank the Japanese Self-Defense Agency and all members of Japan Air Self-Defense Forces at the Hayakuri Airbase for providing us so much support and assistance. |
* * * * ARTIST Sachiko Takaoka Hello! My job is to design the Graphic Interfaces and also to model the weapons used in AC04. This is my first experience working as part of a development team. Fighters and bombers are only tools used to carry bombs and missiles to the target. However bombs and missiles are treated as a secondary aspect and seem to have less respect compared to aircraft. In AC04, the performance of the PS2 hardware has made it possible to add one more original weapon for each aircraft. Since joining the AC04 development team I have become familiar with many aircraft and weapons. I am sure this game will be very enjoyable, and I highly recommend that you give it a try! |
