* Legendary combination of traditional delta wing with advanced technology

The Mirage 2000 was initially developed to replace the Mirage F1C. The characteristic delta wing of the Mirage is light and strong due to the simplicity of its design. Advantages of this design include enlarged fuel tanks (due to thicker wings), and improved maneuverability at supersonic speed. Disadvantages of the delta wing design are that the landing speed is increased and long takeoff and landing runway space is required. As delta wing produces less lift, the aircraft becomes unstable and cannot make sharp turns at low speed.

In the late 1970's, when the fly-by-wire control system was introduced, delta wing planes overcame the aerodynamic disadvantages described above. With computer controlled slats (movable compact wings located in the front part of the main wing of an aircraft) and flaps, it became possible to create a larger amount of lift at various speeds, improving turning and general flight performance.

French engines had a reputation of being less powerful than American or English manufactured engines, however French engines had an advantage, which was their simplicity of design. To compensate for the lower engine performance, many improvements were made to various parts of the airframe.

Many subform fighters were derived using knowledge gained developing the "Mirage 2000C", such as the "2000D", a common tactical penetration two-seater fighter, the "2000N" two-seater fighter with nuclear standoff capability, and the "2000-5".

The latest version, the "2000-5" looks just like "2000C", however it contains the most advanced radar system and electronic warfare devices. It is also capable of carrying various kinds of weapons. With a total weight of 17 tons, it is a relatively light warplane, which has overcome its disadvantages with the use of the latest technology. With a resemblance to the previous Mir3, the Mir2000 is one of the most highly recognized, high-tech warplanes currently in operation.
